Lives of Museum Junkies

Though Lives of Museum Junkies focuses on museums, it also provides information that is applicable to most non-profit organizations. In addition, the book centers on the role of parents and educators in developing creative children. The following questions can help guide a discussion.

Study Questions:

1) Do today’s schools accommodate hands-on learning? How important do you think these types of experiences are?

2) How much unprogrammed time should a child be given during elementary, middle and high school years?

3) What is the role board members should play in oversing a non-profit organization?

4) Do you think a for-profit business leader can run a non-profit organization with ease or are there different sets of skills, knowledge, and ethics needed?

5) How does a person become creative? What role should parents, school, or museum play to this end?

6) Howard Gardner writes of multiple intelligence. What is your best way to learn? Your children?

7) What do you think about the concept of “free-schools” where children determine what and when they will study? What about home-schooling?

9) Do you think fundraising events are worthwhile even if most do little more than break even?
